Shihan Filberto Rosales, Sensei (Shichian)

Shihan Filberto Rosales (referred to as Sensei) developed a love for the martial arts as a young bay in his native country of Guatemala. His passion for martial arts was first realized in 1978 at he age of 17, when he began to train with his cousin a 4th Degree Black Belt in the art of Kenpo Karate. The training lasted a year, but changed his life forever. He moved to Guatemala City and joined a formal Dojo at the age of 18.

In 1985 he immigrated to the U.S. and found his first home in the martial arts a year later when he began training under Sifu Eric Kugel, the relationship has lasted over 24 years, Sensei Filberto achieved his 3rd Degree Black Belt in Kenpo. In 2006 I began to study Jiu Jitsu formally under a fellow classmate So Shihan Carlos M. De La Cruz when he broke away and formally formed Tombo Kai.

Shihan Filberto now serves as the president of Tombo Kai after So Shihan De La Cruz's retirement from the post in early 2018. Now living in Providence, RI Sensei Filberto is a full time instructor, teaches in Rhode Island and overseas all Tombo Kai programs. He is active on the seminar Circuit, teaching, traveling, and working with individuals of all training levels, ages and genders.

I have now achieved so much more in the martial arts than I could have ever imagined, I feel I am living out my purpose in life, and life is like a everyday dream. Amen!
